Residents of Long Island now have access to expanded cancer care with the completion of the full-asset merger of NYU Langone Health with NYU Winthrop Hospital. The merger establishes a number of Perlmutter 鶹Ƶapp Center locations on Long Island, including Perlmutter 鶹Ƶapp Center at NYU Winthrop Hospital, which provides a full range of diagnostic services, treatments, and support programs for all types of cancer. NYU Winthrop Hospital will serve as the site for hospital-based surgical cancer care and the hub for on Long Island.
Perlmutter 鶹Ƶapp Center at NYU Winthrop Hospital CyberKnife Center, which offers a noninvasive radiosurgery treatment in which robotic technology is used to deliver targeted radiation therapy, was the first established CyberKnife® center in the region. Surgical oncologists at NYU Winthrop Hospital also specialize in conventional and minimally invasive surgical techniques, including the da Vinci® surgical system, a minimally invasive robotic surgical approach that enables surgeons to make very small incisions and shorten recovery time.
Clinical trials at Perlmutter 鶹Ƶapp Center will be integrated with those of NYU Winthrop Hospital, providing Long Island residents with access to the same cutting-edge treatment options that are available to patients in Manhattan.
The merger enhances an already robust portfolio of existing NYU Langone cancer services on Long Island, including infusion centers in Lake Success and Huntington, staffed by 20 medical oncologists. Plans are actively underway to create multidisciplinary, cancer-specific on Long Island that integrate physicians among Perlmutter 鶹Ƶapp Center’s three infusion centers, including Perlmutter 鶹Ƶapp Center at NYU Winthrop Hospital Infusion Center.
“We are very excited to have the talented NYU Winthrop faculty and staff join with us to advance cancer research and care,” says , professor of medicine and director of Perlmutter 鶹Ƶapp Center. “Having the only National 鶹Ƶapp Institute–designated Comprehensive 鶹Ƶapp Center on Long Island will enable us to provide additional services, advanced treatments, cancer clinical trials, and convenience for Long Island residents.”
